Socialize before you eat.
Thanksgiving is a time to spend with family and friends. It’s a time to reflect on all we are thankful for over the past year and look forward to exciting events to come in the new year. Catch up with your family members and friends before you tackle the appetizer table. You’ll have more room for dinner if you skip some of the appetizers and only go for your favorites!
Stay hydrated.
Make sure to drink water throughout the day. Often times, hunger pangs are mistaken for dehydration. In between courses find a glass of water to follow the delicious turkey and cranberry sauce options.
Take an after dinner walk.
An after dinner walk can help burn some of those calories and get you up and active after sitting for much of the day. Ask family and friends if they want to join you on your post-meal walk. It will be harder to skip the walk when you have promised to out with your family.
Don’t overeat.
Thanksgiving is a holiday where people test their limits. However, the holiday can be even more enjoyable when you eat until you are satisfied. Instead of packing your plate to the brim, have small servings of everything.
Volunteer to clean up.
Remove yourself from the table by offering to help the host clean up. Not only will your host appreciate the gesture, but you will keep your mind off food and dessert. Doing the dishes and other clean up activities will keep your hands busy and away from picking at the Thanksgiving leftovers.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Dynamic Health family!
